JD

Grew up in Boston with the childhood dream of playing Division I college sports so he could be immersed in a world where all of his passions were able to collide: sports, music, and business. He found himself in New York City, earning a Division 1 scholarship to play football and is now between Boston & Manhattan where he is finishing up grad school and making the leap to full-time recording artist.

JD first got in to music through his Mom, who had him at 19. “In essence we kind of grew up together. We would always have music playing in the car, in the house, greats like Jay-Z, Biggie, 112, Jodeci, Aaliyah, Beyonce, and Kanye West…” It was through these sounds that JD would begin to take on his own aspirations of creating something new.

With 5+ released singles under his belt, he’s now focusing on his future, in which he’ll put out an EP called “Studio Sessions” and continue to put out well crafted singles before dropping a debut album around the stories of his life. Stay tuned for the latest…

Interview

How do you describe the music that you typically create?

“I’d say the best way to describe my music is that it’s a fusion between r&b and hip-hop. I try to blur the lines as much as possible and move between singing and rapping throughout the songs and albums I make.”

Let’s dive into your current releases - What song was your favorite to record and produce and why? What is your creative process like, especially in terms of writing lyrics?

“My favorite song to write and record was “All For What” for sure. I was really excited to put this song out there because I just loved the energy and message of the song. For me, I just write about the experiences I’ve had - the wins and losses, highs and lows, that’s what it’s about. I don’t try to be anyone I’m not.”

Who do you listen to currently?

Lil Baby, Drake, Young Thug, Don Toliver, Nipsey Hussle, Che Ecru, Gunna, Kaash Paige, Brent Faiyaz, Vory, Tame Impala

What does the future look like for JD?

“Man the future looks bright I’m just gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing; working hard, staying in the studio, releasing music. Right now, I’m focused on finishing my EP called “Studio Sessions”. It’s a collection of about 6-7 songs that I’ve written, and I think it’ll give people a taste of what I can do, the vibes I can put out there. It encompasses the highs and lows of my life recently and hopefully will give my listeners something that they can relate to, as well as a better understanding of who JD is.”
